Goal setting originated with God when He set out to create the universe and mankind in His image and likeness. Our ALL WISE LORD then proceeded to give the man a task and a goal:
"And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it."
- Genesis 2:15
It must be noted that God supplied everything the man needed to fulfill his task. He supplied the soil, the seeds, the sunlight, the water in the form of a mist, the air and the elements necessary to build the tools for gardening. All the man had to do was diligently take care of what the Creator had so graciously provided.
As we start a new year let us remember that there is work to be done in God’s field which includes our own hearts and lives. There are weeds to pull out, thorny bushes that need to be removed, pests that need exterminating, a soil that needs to be fertilized and enriched for the seed of the word to grow and become fruitful. The Lord has given each of us a task to do. He has provided the tools with which to do it (the word, prayer, our natural and spiritual gifts), and he has given us more time in which to get it done. Remember, goals generate accomplishments so set some good ones for yourself.
"So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom." - Psalms 90:12
